To try Swaptacular, it is best to have two people — or at least two devices (for example, a laptop and a smartphone). This allows you to issue your own currency on one device and create a digital wallet on the other. Using two separate devices also makes it easy to scan QR codes between them.

Issue your own currency

It is best to use your desktop or laptop computer for this. Make sure your computer has a camera, as you will need it to scan QR codes.

👉 The “My currency” app will guide you through the process of creating your own digital currency.

Once you have created your own currency, you will be able to issue any amount of it to your digital wallet.

Create a digital wallet

It is best to use your smartphone for this.

👉 The “My wallet” app allows you to hold and use other people’s currencies, including your own. Note that you will need to create a separate user account for this app (you can use the same email address).

During setup, the app will ask you for a “digital coin” QR code. You can use the one generated for your own currency, or you can scan the digital coin for this demo currency:

Example digital coin

Once the app has the QR code for the currency you want to use, you will be able to request payments in that currency and process payment requests from other people.

Note: When you want to use a new currency, and the issuer has declared a fixed exchange rate between that currency and a well-known currency, like the US dollar, you will be asked to approve this currency peg.

To issue your own currency to your wallet:

  1. Scan the digital coin QR code for your own currency.

  2. Create a payment request for the desired amount.

  3. Scan the payment request QR code with the “My currency” app and approve the payment.

Automated currency exchanges

Setting up automated currency exchanges manually for testing can be a bit involved.

You would need to create multiple currencies and wallets (using different user accounts), distribute funds between them, and configure exchange policies.

In practice, you do not need to do this. As more participants join your local trading community, opportunities for exchange naturally emerge — and are handled automatically by the system.
